the trouble with North Carolina

yeah... it seems really great. beautiful, cheap, Durham is Democratic & liberal in the majority....

but.

but.

we have no rights in North Carolina.

i was just looking into the laws there...

i didn't expect to find Domestic Partnership laws for us Homos there... [& i was not surprised]

but we aren't protected from discrimination at all. AT ALL.

housing, employment... it isn't even a hate crime to beat us up or kill us.

WHAT'S UP NORTH CAROLINA?

so. yeah. that just doesn't make me happy at all.

i expected SOME protection.

o, but they have an LGBT Film Festival & a Parade.

wow.

this is disappointing. very.

& frightening.

is ANYBODY out there reading this? is it dangerous to be gay in Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh?

because it seems risky.

i wasn't expecting anything like here in SF.
but... NO RIGHTS?

WTF???

r: i know... she didn't apply to anywhere near Portland. & it is such a great, green city.

d: apparently chapel hill DOES have domestic partnerships for us... & durham is the homo mecca of NC. i think if we decide to move we'll get a lawyer to make sure we have all our papers in order. we'll drop rob a line, too. thanks!
